Exploring Southern Ridges...

Planned this wkend 1 mth ago & was excited at the tot of my gfs coming to camp over at my house =) The run up to awaiting their arrival was cleaning up my place! It's only now that i realize it's super tedious to clean up the whole house single handedly!!! I guess it's a pre work-out prior to today's hiking...

Luckily i tot of ordering our Mac breakfast in advance so can ''earn'' us more sleep-in time, haha! Awake to my melodious alarm at 8.30am, abit recultantly. The doorbell sounded promptly at 8.45am. We ate our muffin & hotcakes, sipping refreshing orange juice...haha! Charging up was crucial as we need all the energy for the next estimated 3hrs hike.

We started the Southern Ridges trail from the foot of Mount Faber... seriously, despite staying juz a stone throw away, i dragged to climb Mt Faber! But i guess it's always more motivating to ascend the hill wif frens... thou we were restless & didn't had a gd sleep, we still push on! The super steep slope was killing! Thou we were not veri old but we needed to slow our pace to catch our breathe... Zf was more jiat lat, she had to sit down at the barricade juz 10 mins into the walk! Ruby had a great idea to remove our neg tots...which was to take out our cams & start taking pics! While i try to 'psycho' myself that i need to 加油!我可以的!Our lack of exercise & low stamina really showed in this short ascending of the hill... Wif persistance, we finally caught sight of the hill top!!! Yeah! By then, we were already sweat thru'...the weather was veri hot!

At the top of Mt. Faber, there were both locals & tourists alike who had the same tots as us... to explore the southern ridges. On our journey, we also saw a number of photography enthusiasts wif veri pro DSLR! From Faber Walk, we followed the trail which led us to Henderson Wave... the highest pedestrian overhead bridge in Sg. We spent some time here on the benches & taking pics. Oh yes, we saw a cute baby crawling next to us ;-)

Henderson Wave connects Mt. Faber to Telok Blangah Hill Park via Hilltop Walk... we missed climbing up a part of it called the Terrace Garden (shld try next time). The trail continues to the Forest Walk, a steps-free elevated walkway that cuts thru the secondary forest of Telok Blangah Hill & connects to Alexandra Arch. It's exhirilating to look down ur feets as the elevated walkway was a sturdy steel structure going as high as 18metres. Standing up there gave us a bird's eye view of the forest.

Since this is our 1st time exploring the Southern Ridges, i had planned to end the walk halfway at the Floral Walk Hortpark. Passing thru the Alexandra Arch, we strolled into HortPark - referring to horticulture. Being Southeast Asia's first one-stop centre for gardening related recreational, educational, research & retail activities in a park setting.... i saw many diff species of flowers that i had never seen before! Living the life of a city-dweller, it's the 1st time i saw a tomato plant & a brinjal plant, haha! The cactuses were most interesting, made up of multi-colour, shapes & sizes!

Juz when we tot we had finish touring the HortPark, we picked up the area's map & realize there's still quite a fair bit to cover! By then, was abt 12.30pm & Zf needed to go off ... so we had to abandon the idea of further exploration. So, i guess we had to return to Hortpark another day! By now, our heavy breakfast had digested lo! I suggested we board a bus to Harbourfront to eat fried hokkien mee... yum yum!

Despite the tiredness, there's a sense of achievement ... i guess in life is like navigating this trail, there's ups & downs, heehee! If u set ur goals & sights, coupled wif preserverance ... u will make it & WE DID!
