Remember since years ago, i watched ''Spirited Away'' in the theatre...it's been a long while, there's a Jap animation that caught my attention. Lately, i saw this movie ad in the papers that stated Best Animation Film in Japan 2006 "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time'', in jap is ''Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo''.
Yesterday, took the opp to watch it wif Ruby ~ being her bday, she's on leave...treated her to lunch at Waraku @ Central Mall, & we took a bus to Orchard Cineleisure, only Cathay screening tis anime exclusively in japanese, dubbed in both eng & chinese sub ;-)
So used to hollywood's CGI effects cartoons rite? Act it's not necc, in The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, the drawings r simple wif clean lines, topped wif a simple story & nice theme songs is all we need to appreciate a gd film. Adorable & innocent Makoto, a 17 yr old high sch gal stumbled upon her ability to leap backwards thru' time. She had 2 boys classmates, her buddies, Chiaki & Kousuke who always play baseball aft sch wif her.
At 1st, Makoto couldn't believe she had such power... but once confirmed, all e hilarious stuff began...Me & Ruby kept laughing at her funny antics! She used it for quite meaningless things, like to get better scores in tests, match her buddy wif another gal, eat her fav pudding & terriyaki!
Most enjoyed was tis scene: Makato & her 2 frens went KTV aft sch, when reach last 5min of KTV session, she kept use her power, the way she hv to run, leapt & always end up knocking her head...damm kawaii (cute)! At end of day, she returned home & lost voice...Mom ask, "where hv u been?'', Makoto,''KTV...'' Mom,"for how long?'', Makoto replied in a tired tone, ''10hrs''. Mom said, ''how can it be?'' (^_^) (i wonder if i can hv tt power too, heehee!)
I shouldn't reveal too much...but seriously, towards the end... i was really 感动. Innocent Makoto din realise tt her power do hv a limited no. of times to use...& while she gain, another party is losing something. When she found her power in the sch science lab, there's a meaningful phrase on e blackboard ''Time waits for no one''... i did ponder as watching e movie.
I luv another scene, when she's riding at the bicycle back-seat of Chiaki's bike...enjoying e river scenary, when Chiaki pop e question, if she can be his GF. Makoto was so afraid to chg their status quo as close frens, she kept lept back in time...haha! but e guy also kept ask same Q, thou she tried chg topic, kekeke! Silly rite? but sooo funny wo!
The ending did made me anxious...as life & death matters. Also, the morale of e story was strongly brought across. Many things can't be changed probably, even if u hv special powers...juz cherish whatever or whoever tt u luv.
3.5 out of 4 stars awarded to tis anime, catch it over the wkend ba! if u wan to know the whole story & why it's so touching! 1.5hr film...hee! I hope to get its disc if avail in Sg!
